You play it on your own, in your own journal. You draw a card or roll dice, the book tells you what you found tonight, and you write a short entry about it. There is no winning and nothing to memorise.
No. It is played alone. Nobody reads it unless you show them.
A journal and something to write with, and for most of the games an ordinary deck of playing cards. The Keeper’s Log uses two dice instead of cards. Every listing says which, near the top.
About ten minutes on a tired night, or an hour when you feel like making a fuller page. You stop when the entry is done.
It depends which one. Folklore Forest runs fifty-two nights, one card a night. The Crimson Parlour runs thirteen and ends with you naming the killer. The Keeper’s Log runs forty. The Unanswered Letter is one evening. The Borrowed Shelf is one page for every book you finish.
In Folklore Forest, some finds carry a third line marked Thread. You do not copy it into your journal. It tells you which of the four running stories that night’s find belongs to: the name, the gate, the record, or the white stag. So you know what you are adding to. When no Thread line has turned up for a few nights, ask yourself which of the four tonight’s find belongs to, because it always belongs to one. Some people keep four pages at the back of the journal and note the date and the card each time one appears.
No. Where the book asks for a drawing, the instruction is to do it badly and label it anyway.
Yes. That is how it is built. Every entry goes into your own journal, and nothing in it asks you to cut up or use up something you own.
Yes, print-ready PDFs at US Letter size, delivered the moment you pay. The book you can read on a screen. The component sheets are meant to be printed and cut, and an ink-saver copy of each one comes in the download.
