Foxglove Damask is a set of 30 gothic background papers in plum, wine and slate blue, drawn over aged plaster in bone and grey-green with gold caught in the cracks. Foxglove spires, berry sprays and Victorian wallpaper repeats sit on every sheet. It is the second kit in The Poison Garden series from Artful Safari.

The set was designed as one collection, so any two sheets layer together without the colours arguing. Use it for a gothic scrapbook page, a dark academia album, a junk journal spread or a moody card.

What is in this gothic background kit

30 papers, each a finished 12 x 12 inch page design rather than a repeating tile:

  • 12 open-centre papers, botanicals ringing the edges with the middle left as plain aged plaster, so a photo or a block of writing sits straight on top
  • 7 allover botanical papers, foxglove, berry sprays and dark leaves covering the sheet corner to corner, the boldest in the set
  • 4 damask repeat papers, mirrored foxglove and berry damask drawn like a Victorian wallpaper, symmetrical top to bottom
  • 3 foxglove spire papers, tall plum and indigo spires hanging the full height of the page over a pale wash
  • 4 plaster blender papers, clouded grey, bone and plum washes with gold flecks and no botanicals at all

File formats and sizes

  • 30 high-resolution JPG files
  • 12 x 12 inches, 3600 x 3600 pixels
  • 300 DPI, ready for print or screen
  • Instant digital download. The pack is too large to attach directly, so you receive a PDF of download links

Works with

Any app that opens a JPG. That includes Procreate, Photoshop, Affinity, Canva, GoodNotes, and digital scrapbooking software such as Artisan. Nothing has to be unlocked or converted first. You can print a sheet at home, though at 12 x 12 it will be reduced or cropped to fit US Letter or A4.

How to use Foxglove Damask on a page

Start with an open-centre sheet and drop the photo or the journaling into the plain plaster middle. The border does the decorating, so nothing else is needed to finish the page.

Across a spread, pair one damask repeat with a plaster blender rather than running two patterned sheets side by side. The wallpaper repeat reads as pattern and the spires read as vertical lines, which is usually enough contrast for a double page.

Styling ideas

For a restrained gothic look, cut a narrow band off a foxglove spire sheet and lay it down one edge of a blender. For a full junk journal page, tear the edge of an allover botanical sheet over a damask repeat and let the gold flecks catch along the seam. Same gothic background papers, different spacing.

What you can make with this gothic background paper

Scrapbook and memory-keeping pages, junk journal spreads and signatures, Halloween and autumn albums, greeting cards, invitations, tags, book covers, planner decoration, collage, and printed backgrounds for quotes or lettering. The licence covers small-business use, so the papers can also sit behind a product line you sell.

Why this gothic background set works

Most dark paper packs give you atmosphere and nowhere to put the words. Twelve of these thirty sheets are built with an open middle and four more are plain plaster washes, so two-thirds of the kit will take a photograph or a line of handwriting without a fight. The heavy damask and spire sheets are there for the pages that want to be loud.

Frequently asked questions

What size are the papers?
12 x 12 inches at 300 DPI, which is 3600 x 3600 pixels, saved as JPG.

Are the damask papers seamless repeating tiles?
No. Each one is a finished page design drawn to look like Victorian wallpaper across the sheet, so it will not tile edge to edge with itself.

Can I print them on Letter or A4?
Yes, at a reduced size or cropped to the part you want. If you need pages that print edge to edge on Letter, the junk journal kits in the shop are the ones built for that.

Can I use them on things I sell?
Yes. Finished pages, cards and printables you make with the papers are fine to sell. The paper files themselves are not.

Before you buy

What file formats do I get?

Papers come as JPG. Elements, frames and alphabets come as transparent PNG. All of it is 300 DPI.

What size are the papers?

Digital scrapbook papers are 12 x 12 inches. Junk journal papers are 11 x 8.5 inches, which is US Letter. Elements, word art and alphabets vary in size, because a torn strip and a full frame are not the same shape. Everything is 300 DPI, so it holds up on screen and in print.

Does it work in Procreate, Photoshop, Canva or GoodNotes?

Yes. PNG and JPG open in all four, and in anything else that reads those two formats.

Can I use it on an iPad?

Yes. Save the files into the Files app, then import them into Procreate or GoodNotes the way you would any other image.

Do I have to print it?

No. The files are sized for digital pages, so you can work on screen. If you would rather print, 300 DPI holds its detail at full size.

Can I use it on things I sell?

Yes. The licence covers personal and small-business use. You can sell finished things made with the art, like cards and prints. You cannot resell or share the files themselves.

How do I get the files?

The moment you pay. The link is on the order confirmation and in your account, so you can come back for it later. The larger packs arrive as a short PDF with the download link inside it.

What if the download does not work?

Email helene@artfulsafari.com and I will send you a working link. If I cannot get it working, you get your money back. You can also change your mind on anything in the shop and get a refund, any time before you download it.
