Nightshade Almanac is a set of 30 vintage floral background papers in plum, wine and sage grey, laid over bone and parchment grounds that look like pages lifted out of an old herbarium. Foxglove spires, nightshade berries, hellebores and thistle heads gather at the corners and edges and leave the middle of the page clear. It is the palest kit in The Poison Garden series from Artful Safari.
The 30 sheets were drawn as one collection, so any two of them layer together without the colours arguing. Use them for a scrapbook page, a dark cottagecore album, a junk journal spread or a moody card.
What is in this vintage floral background kit
30 papers, each a finished 12 x 12 inch page design rather than a repeating tile:
- 16 open-centre papers, botanicals cascading down the corners and edges with a plain aged wash through the middle, so a photo, a title or a block of writing sits straight on top with nothing to fight
- 10 allover botanical papers, berry sprays, small flowers and fine stems covering the sheet corner to corner, from airy and scattered through to dense herbarium-plate patterning
- 4 aged plaster blenders, bone, cream and stone with soft mottling and gold flecks, no botanicals at all
File formats and sizes
- 30 high-resolution JPG files
- 12 x 12 inches, 3600 x 3600 pixels
- 300 DPI, ready for print or screen
- Instant digital download. The pack is too large to attach directly, so you receive a PDF of download links
Works with
Any app that opens a JPG. That includes Procreate, Photoshop, Affinity, Canva, GoodNotes, and digital scrapbooking software such as Artisan. Nothing has to be unlocked or converted first. You can print a sheet at home, though at 12 x 12 it will be reduced or cropped to fit US Letter or A4.
How to use Nightshade Almanac on a page
Start with an open-centre sheet and drop the photo or the journaling into the plain wash in the middle. The border does the decorating, so nothing else is needed to finish the page.
Across a spread, pair one allover botanical with a plaster blender rather than running two busy sheets side by side. The berry sprays read as small repeated marks, which is usually enough to carry the second page on its own.
Styling ideas
Cut a narrow band off an allover sheet and lay it down one edge of a blender for a quiet page with one line of pattern. For a fuller junk journal look, tear the edge of a herbarium sheet over a pale wash and let the gold flecks catch along the seam. Same vintage floral background papers, different spacing.
What you can make with this vintage floral background paper
Scrapbook and memory-keeping pages, junk journal spreads and signatures, wedding and anniversary albums, greeting cards, invitations, tags, book covers, planner decoration, collage, and printed backgrounds for quotes or lettering. The licence covers small-business use, so the papers can also sit behind a product line you sell.
Why this vintage floral background set works
Dark floral paper usually leaves you nowhere to put the words. Nightshade Almanac is the pale end of The Poison Garden: sixteen of the thirty sheets keep an open middle and four more are plain grounds, so dark ink and photographs still read on top. The dense botanical sheets are there for the pages that want to be loud.
Licence
For personal and small-business use. You can sell finished products made with the papers, such as cards, prints, printables and journals. You cannot resell, share or redistribute the paper files themselves, and they cannot be sold on as a digital product.
Instant download
Your files are ready the moment you check out. The link is on the order confirmation and in your account, so you can come back for it later. Nothing is posted to you.
Frequently asked questions
What size are the papers?
12 x 12 inches at 300 DPI, which is 3600 x 3600 pixels, saved as JPG.
Are these seamless repeating tiles?
No. Each one is a finished 12 x 12 page design. They sit beside each other well, but they will not tile edge to edge with themselves.
Can I print them on Letter or A4?
Yes, at a reduced size or cropped to the part you want. If you need pages that print edge to edge on Letter, the junk journal kits in the shop are the ones built for that.
Is there enough clear space to write on?
Yes. Sixteen of the thirty keep an open centre and four are plain grounds with no botanicals, so two thirds of the kit has room for handwriting or a photo.
Can I use them on things I sell?
Yes. Finished pages, cards and printables you make with the papers are fine to sell. The paper files themselves are not.
